Acer Stream gets official, packs a punch

The Acer Stream (which was one of the devices on the great wall of Android) was announced by Acer recently, and it wants a seat at the big-boy table. The Stream packs a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and 512MB RAM. The 5-megapixel camera also records in 720p video and there's the increasingly popular HDMI-out port. It also uses HSDPA 7.2 MBps, 802.11n and Bluetooth. Sounds mighty familiar to Evo specs, no?

Acer has been focusing on building Android devices for some time now. We thought the Acer Liquid was a solid option and believe the Steam can be even better. Now if only Acer would tell us how much it costs, when it's available, and where you can get it. Those details obviously don't matter.

Android powered Motorola Greco XT502 leaked by Bluetooth SIG

It's not quite the Motorola Shadow, but it looks like the Bluetooth SIG has leaked another Android phone: the Motorola Greco XT502. We haven't heard of the Motorola Greco before, which is odd considering we've seen Motorola Android devices in all shapes and sizes and doubly odd considering the Greco packs 3G bands--850, 1900 & 2100--that work with AT&T (and Canadian carriers). The Greco also unsurprisingly comes with quad-band GSM, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth.

From the looks of it, it seems like a rather unimpressive device (similarly styled to the i1). Does this Greco have a place in Motorola's upcoming Android lineup? We're going to say no. [bluetooth sig via intomobile]

Boost Mobile Motorola i1 costs $349.99; coming to Sprint over next few weeks

The Boost Mobile Motorola i1 popped up on Best Buy recently and it looks like it'll be priced a bit higher than any of us wanted and/or expected: $349.99. On one hand, the Motorola i1 is a pre-paid device that comes with no commitments or contracts. Not to mention that you could use Boost Mobile's $50/month all inclusive plan to save even more money down the road. But for a device that is decidedly mid-level--3.1-inch screen, Android 1.5, etc--it's tough to pay that initial premium when better Android devices can be had for half the price.

Meanwhile, it the i1 now appears slated for Sprint release starting June 6 with direct shipping, and everywhere else on July 11. It still isn't likely to do much for most consumers. But for the iDEN crowd, well, chop the price down to $149 and things get interesting. Leave it at $349 and the i1 stays in a niche market. [bestbuy via engadget]

Where Motorola stands on Android updates

Just to ease your fears or maybe tease you even more, Motorola has just updated their official Android update page and timeframes are thankfully getting a little more specific. Leading the way, of course, is the Droid which has completed its Android 2.1 update and the Milestone which is currently rolling out its own update in different parts of the world. Compared to the previous update, the Backflip now has Android 2.1 planned for Q3 and the Cliq and Cliq XT has 2.1 planned for Q2. Unfortunately the Devour's upgrade is still "under evaluation". It's very nice of Motorola to keep us updated on their Android 2.1 plans but we wonder if they've heard that Android 2.2 Froyo is out and about now.. [Motorola]

T-Mobile is making the myTouch 3G Slide the center of its universe

To no one's surprise, T-Mobile is positioning the myTouch 3G Slide as its next big device launch. In fact, from these leaked slides, it looks like their building an entire summer campaign around the myTouch brand. We've been decently impressed with what we've seen in the myTouch 3G Slide and think it vibes with all those current and former Sidekick, T-Mobile G1, and myTouch 3G users. Given that most people who bought the G1 are due for an upgrade, the myTouch 3G Slide's release can't come at a more perfect time.

Some cool details in the leaked slides show that there'll be A LOT of advertising for the myTouch 3G Slide (like for the original myTouch) and a big push on accessories (which we're sure you'll be able to find here). What's interesting is that though the launch date is June 2, myTouch 3G Slides won't be demoed in store until June 7 and the ad campaign doesn't start til June 16. June 17 is marked mysteriously and interestingly as: "STAY TUNED - THIS WILL BE BIG". What could that mean? [via engadget]

And here’s another picture of the Motorola Droid Shadow

And the Motorola Droid Shadow is spotted again! This time the Droid Shadow is shown from the uber-sexy side angle and from the looks of it, we're quite impressed with the overall thinness and clean lines of it. In this shot we can clearly see the HDMI out that's in line with previous leaked info but the Howard Forums user who posted the pic says that the Droid Shadow "only" has a 4.1-inch screen, TI OMAP 3630 processor (720 ARM Cortex A8), 8GB internal storage, and 8-megapixel camera. That's a little off from previous information so we'll have to wait and see who's right. We'd like Snapdragon and the extra .2 inches in screen size please. Other than that though, this phone looks sweet. Those of you who passed on the Droid Incredible might have a great thing in your hands soon. [via engadget]

Dell Streak gets official announcement & specs

After what felt like years of speculation, the Dell Streak is officially official. As in Dell has announced it and it's coming to O2 in the U.K. in early June and the US later this summer (likely AT&T). The announcement is completely in line with what Dell CEO Michael Dell told us a couple weeks back and the specs are similar to all the leaked info we've seen in the past months. But there's nothing like a good 'ol press release to put the final stamp on it.

The official specs of the Dell Streak:

  • 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor
  • 5-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen
  • 5-megapixel camera with LED Flash
  • 16GB internal memory with microSD support
  •  Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1
  • 7.2 Mbps HSDPA
  • launching with Android 1.6, update to Android 2.2 by end of the year

The only thing we don't have is pricing, and we hope Dell doesn't mess it up. All you folks across the pond will find the Streak available online and in stores from O2, Carphone Warehouse, and Dell.co.uk. Us Americans have to wait just a little bit longer. Thanks Dell. [businesswire]

T-Mobile Garminfone coming June 2

We've known that the Garminfone was headed to T-Mobile "later this spring". We also knew that it would retail for $199.99. Now everything is starting to come together, according to leaked promo material, it looks like the T-Mobile Garminefone will become available on June 2nd, which conveniently enough is the same launch date for the T-Mobile myTouch 3G. Guess T-Mobile is ramping up its Android lineup for the summer.

The Garminfone runs Android 1.6 (boo) with a 600MHz processor, 3.5-inch display, and 3-megapixel camera. Sure we wish all phones that release now ran Froyo but we can't have it all. At least you're promised the best navigational Android device on the market. Well, hopefully, or this Garminfone has no point. [via engadget mobile]

Motorola i1 now available on SouthernLinc, coming to Boost Mobile

The Motorola i1, the first push to talk Android-powered phone, is now available on SouthernLinc Wireless. We had expected Sprint to be the first carrier to carry the Motorola i1 but we guess a little carrier no one's heard about beat them to the punch. And it looks like Boost Mobile is hot on its heels, with MobileCrunch scoring confirmation that the i1 is on the way to the MVNO.

The Motorola i1 is actually a rather decent phone for those in the iDEN market -- it packs a 5-megapixel camera, gorilla glass screen, and is Military Spec 810F certified for blowing rain, dust, shock, vibration, temperature extremes, low pressure, salt fog, humidity and solar radiation. Now that's a spec list for you. The i1 also comes preloaded with Opera Mini 5 (and the native browser too) and Swype, so in all, a pretty decent option for those looking for a rugged handset. Thanks for the tip Adam!

Get a T-Mobile myTouch 3G for free

Likely in anticipation of the upcoming T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide launch, the original myTouch is now available for free from T-Mobile (with new two-year contract). Remember, the myTouch 3G started off as the second Android device ever and turned into T-Mobile's flagship Android device (it still gets tons of commercials!)--it was definitely a solid phone from Android's previous generation. But with the myTouch 3G Slide besting the myTouch 3G in every way, it was due for a huge price cut. If you really want a myTouch, we'd wait until June 2nd for the myTouch 3G Slide. It doesn't make sense to invest in the previous generation anymore, even if it is for free. [t-mobile via tmonews]
