myTouch 3G Fender Edition is coming back!

The beautiful T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Edition is coming back! T-Mobile retail stores will reportedly be receiving one additional shipment of the limited edition, guitar-inspired Android device on March 31st (which is this Wednesday!). As it quickly sold out its first go around, we expect more of the same this time, so be quick if you want in! When we had our hands-on with the myTouch 3G Fender Edition, we were very impressed with the build and finish. We think you'd think the same.

Review: T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition

One of the biggest Android marketing pushes we've seen this side of the Motorola Droid has been from T-Mobile and the myTouch 3G line. And it's a testament to the popularity of the device that we now have a Fender Limited Edition (see our video hands-on), modeled after the famed guitars. And this has truly been a limited edition, as it's already sold out.

myTouch 3G Fender Edition Sold Out

Most collaborations and special edition devices come off as contrived ideas that aren't much different from the original device. The myTouch 3G was not your typical special edition device. The design was stellar, the execution was awesome, and judging from its sales, it was wildly successful. We noticed that the myTouch 3G Fender wasn't available for upgrade users a week ago and guessed that it sold out. We were right. Tmonews is reporting that all 17,250 units of the myTouch 3G Fender Edition has been sold out. The demand for the myTouch 3G Fender is so high that T-Mobile is ordering a second round of devices for release in April. If you missed out today, don't miss out in April!

myTouch 3G 1.2 looks strangely familiar

Now that the myTouch 3G 1.2 has been manhandled, really the only thing left to do is for T-Mobile to release the darn thing. And judging by the pictorial, the only real difference we're going to be seeing will be under the hood -- there's now 256MB of RAM -- and the addition of the 3.5mm headphone jack. It also comes with an 8GB microSD card.

Did The T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Edition Really Sell Out ?

Did the recently released limited edition T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender really just sell out? Tmonews just received the slide above which specifically states that the myTouch 3G Fender Edition is no longer available to existing customers that want to upgrade to the device (it also states the the black myTouch 3G will also be unavailable for upgrade). The rumored reason floating around is that that the myTouch 3G Fender is out of stock at the warehouse. Meaning, yes, it is selling out.

It's a little hard to believe because as much as we liked the phone when we did our hands-on, it's still a generation behind the likes of the Nexus One. Did that many people actually pass on the Nexus One and went for the myTouch 3G Fender Edition instead? Was demand that high? Is this real? Did T-Mobile only make 1,000 units? We feel like there has to be more explanation to this story.

What do you guys think? Could the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Edition really have sold out that fast?

Hands-on with the myTouch 3G Fender

If Jimi Hendrix were alive today, this would be the phone he'd be carrying. The T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition is a refresh of the myTouch 3G that features a guitar-like finish, a serious case that mimics one you'd take to a gig, and it sees the (very welcome) addition of a 3.5mm headphone jack.
