We've seen quite a few of those iPhone thingy-ma-jigs in our favorite TV shows and movies on the silver screen for the past few years. Though recently, it seems like our little robot buddy has been quickly becoming quite the A-lister. In July we spotted the Nexus One being used by Ari Gold and Johnny Drama on HBO's hit show, Entourage.
In a recent episode of TV Land's Hot in Cleveland, the son of Valerie Bertinelli's character was spotted using the father of all Android phones, the G1. I guess the G1 is not dead. The question is: When is Android getting its own IMDb page? Thanks Kyle!

The G1. The founding father of Android as we know it today has finally been removed from the T-Mobile website. This device has had quite a run since its launch in the fall of 2008, and we have seen a lot more happen for this device then we ever thought imaginable. The original Android device, the one running "only" a 528MHz processor, may have not been anywhere near the top in comparison to other device specs, but this will be a device that no one will ever forget. From the protoype demo by Andy Rubin to the leaked specs to the long awaited release the device will surely never be forgotten, heck it even landed itself a 2.1 based ROM for all the faithful users. Now, let's all take a minute to remember our fallen soldier. Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Development for Android continues, even if unofficially, and it seems as though just about every day we see something new surface. HTC G1 owners sometimes feel as though they are on the back burner, as their device was the original, and at this point it is slightly behind the times in some categories. But that doesn't stop Cyanogen from developing great custom ROMs. And 5.0.7 is the latest and greatest of all the Cyanogen builds for older phones, and it's now available for download. (And above, Cyanogen crony Kmobs shows off some of the finer points.) We're still waiting on the build to actually be released, but it should be any time now. Keep your eyes peeled here.
We're getting word that T-Mobile G1 users have been getting OTA updates over the past couple of days, but alas it's not "THE BIG ONE" to Android 2.0 or 2.1. Instead, it looks like it's a radio update, aka the infamous "call quality improvement."
Be sure to post your findings in the forums and check out what others are seeing. [T-Mobile forums]
Nope, Android fans, the T-Mobile G1 isn't getting the almighty Android 2.1 update (or 2.0 for that matter) just yet. Instead, you can look forward to one of those lovely "maintenance updates." This one, dubbed DMD64, promises to improve call performance. So if you're the type who loves radio updates (and who doesn't, really), make sure you have the required Android data plan, sit back and wait for it to roll in. [via TMoNews]
While more Android devices come out rocking Android 2.0 on launch and other Android phones announcing their intention to do so in the future, any news regarding the very first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, has been nonexistent. We figured that was an omen for bad news because why not announce that 2.0 is coming if it can eventually come, right? Plus, with Rogers' whole ordeal with the HTC Dream and 2.0, well it just wasn't looking good at all.
But there's a glimmer of hope! A moderator in an internal T-Mobile forum has posted that the T-Mobile G1 will receive its update by the end of January. It's not the most official of sources but we want this to be true so bad, we're rolling with it. So what say you T-Mobile?
Do you guys desperately want the T-Mobile G1 to get Android 2.0? Or do you guys just want to buy the Nexus One now? Let us know!

If you're one of our Canadian readers with an HTC Dream on Rogers with Android 1.5, stop what you're doing and read this, eh?
You should have by now been contacted by text message that there's an issue with completing 911 galls that's related to GPS location, and that a software fix is on the way. Here's the, erm, text of the text:
URGENT 911 calls: Please disable GPS location on your HTC Dream device to ensure all 911 calls complete. HTC is urgently working on a software upgrade and we will provide details shortly so you can re-enable GPS.
Here are the steps to turn off GPS:
Rogers apparently has pulled the Dream for the time being, until things are cleared up. Good luck, folks, and let us know when the update fix rolls in. [via MobileSyrup]
