The Smartphone Round Robin Contest is officially over! So who's the winner of a brand new Android device of their liking? Wait for it...
droid00 !
Congratulations droid00, because of this post right here, you'll be receiving an Android device of your liking. If you haven't heard from us yet, you will soon because you have to collect your prize!
We thank everyone for participating in the 3rd annual Smartphone Round Robin, we loved all your comments, your help, your questions, your perspectives, heck, we just love you all. Hopefully, the Smartphone Round Robin convinced some people to switch to Android and if so, we welcome you with open arms. We're going to keep doing the Smartphone Round Robin in the future and it's going to get bigger and better, with even more prizes for you guys to win.
And though the Smartphone Round Robin Contest is over, we're not quite done with our own review of Android. Stay tuned to hear about what Android Central thinks about the Android platform! It'll be fun, we promise.
Thanks again to everyone who participated in the Smartphone Round Robin!
A couple of contest deadlines are hanging over your (and ours, too) heads. A refresher:
The Smartphone Round Robin is finally over! After a long trip through five other smartphone platforms, we're finally back on our own lovely Android. Having played with so many different platforms, we can say with full confidence that there's been no better time to be a smartphone user. Really, any smartphone you pick up is worth your time. We've come a very long way from maddening UIs and cruddy hardware.
And maybe we thank the iPhone for shocking the smartphone market alive, but it doesn't stop there. We sure have to thank Blackberry for continuing to build great devices and fine tuning their experience. Certainly thank Android & webOS for introducing fresh concepts and philosophies. And thank Windows Mobile and Nokia for staying their course while still modernizing. And we haven't even mentioned third party manufacturers like HTC & Motorola. Everyone is in some part responsible for the growth of smartphones. Even you.
But anyway, let's see what the other editors thought of Android in the Smartphone Round Robin! We've picked out some choice quotes from all of their reviews that highlights their overall theme. It's an interesting lot, to say the least, and we're glad to see such fresh perspective on the Android platform. Seeing it day-to-day limits our ability to see it as outside the box as these guys.
Read on to see what the other editors had to say about Android!
Ah, Blackberry. If you think about it, Blackberry is the last of the "old guard" of smartphones still standing. Palm rebooted with webOS and Windows Mobile is looking to do the same with Windows Mobile 7. The (relatively) new players in the game, iPhone and Android, have introduced new philosophies and innovative features while Blackberry just keeps on churning, with its pager history on its back and keyboard tradition on the front, a Blackberry today is simply, yet unmistakably, a better Blackberry from yesterday.
And to tell you guys the truth, I love me some Blackberry. Even though it's a completely different experience compared to the Android experience, there's a lot to love and learn from Blackberry. Though it's not the most ideal device for me, I can definitely see why its so wildly successful. It's undoubtedly a unique experience. But there are obvious limitations to Blackberry, perhaps more so than any other platform, but hey, Blackberrys get things done, right?
See what Android Central thinks of the Blackberry platform in the full review below!
Blackberry! We have Blackberrys in the house for Week 5 of the Smartphone Round Robin (we're a little late, we know) and it's definitely going to be a fun ride. Though the Blackberrys in this year's Round Robin (Storm 2, Bold 9700) are similar to the offerings we had last year, they're absolutely better devices overall. You can almost think of these devices as perfect Blackberrys.
I've started a thread over at the Crackberry forums asking some questions but more importantly getting myself familiar with the community of Blackberry, trying to find the 'crack'. On another note, our friend Phil Nickinson representing WMExperts is using Android this week and has started a thread asking for help in our own Android Central forums. Help him out and you might even win an Android smartphone of your choice!
Be sure to hit the jump to check out my hands-on video of Blackberry with a lot of help from Crackberry Kevin!

From the Forums is a great way for you, our readers, to see the hottest topics being discussed. But you must be a registered member and becoming a member is a simple process. So if you have not already already done so, head on over and register now!
See you on the forums!
If you didn't know, week 4 of the Smartphone Round Robin is in full effect. Amidst all the CES craziness things kind of get lost but fear not, this Round Robin is still going on! Where's Android this week? Over in the good hands of our good friend Dieter Bohn of PreCentral.net. I loved webOS when I reviewed it, I wonder if he'll feel the same about Android? Be sure to check out his Hands-On Video of Android at PreCentral.net!
Dieter has started a thread over in our Android Central Forums asking questions and yep, taking answers. There's some great conversation going on in there so be sure to participate. Plus, every day you make a post in that thread this week you're entered to win a free Android smartphone from Android Central! And that includes the Nexus One all right.
