T-Mobile USA in in negotiations to carry Huawei's new Ideos handset -- an entry-level Android handset that will ship with Android 2.2, so says the Wall Street Journal. WSJ's unnamed source, however, says that it's unsure if the deal will go through, and to expect the answer in four to six weeks.
Huawei is better know for its telco equipment (that's the stuff your carrier buys for its towers and data centers), and a push to get into the U.S. smartphone market is somewhat new. Any manufacturer who can ship a solidly built messaging phone replacement, that also runs the latest and greatest version of Android is OK in my book. Bring it! We're trying to track one down at IFA, in the meantime hit the jump to see Huawei's promo video for the Ideos. [WSJ online]

T-Mobile's Scoop pages have a new entry, the T-Mobile G2 in all it's glory, along with some confirmation about a few of rumors flying about. Besides the HSPA+ radio, and the mysterious Quick Keys, we also see an 800 MHz Scorpion processor, Android 2.2 (Froyo) on board, and Adobe Flash 10.1.
Even if we didn't learn anything that we haven't discussed to death in the comments and the forums, a new picture of plain old Vanilla Froyo running on this one is always appreciated. Keeps throwing the bones T-Mobile. [T-Mobile SCOOP] Thanks FORDOC!

Nothing surprising here -- leaked T-Mobile internal documents show the pricing of the G2 at $199.99 on contract/after rebate, and $499.99 if bought outright. This would be the same as the Vibrant, Droid Incredible, HTC Evo 4G, and just about every other top tier smartphone -- with the exception being the Epic 4G. (We're going to go out on a limb here and opine that there will be earbuds, a charger and maybe some documentation in the box, too -- you heard it here first!). So save your pennies and check in the ashtray for change, and hopefully we will see this one soon. [TmoNews]

Just like last month, T-Mobile has lit up their HSPA+ network in nine more markets, bringing 4G like speed (21 Mbs) to:
This brings the count up to 55 markets, and over 100 million people covered by the HSPA+ network. While the G2 should make full use of HSPA+ network technology, the Cliq, Vibrant, Behold II, and MyTouch 3G Slide also benefit from the higher speeds according to T-Mobile. See T-Mobile's official statement after the break.

We'd be lying if we said we weren't excited about the T-Mobile G2, the carrier's first HSPA+ Android smartphone. And so we're excited to see these leaked renders which give us a good look at the horizontal slider's keyboard. And if there's anybody who knows how to do a keyboard right (so long as the carrier doesn't frak it up), it's HTC.
Supposedly that's a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED screen we're looking at, but it wouldn't surprise us at all if that changed, given the current state of supply. Or lack thereof. Now alls we need is a little extra launch info from T-Mobile and we'll be all set. [Cell Phone Signal] Thanks, Marco!

There's been some talk about the HSPA+ HTC G2 being released in September, and TmoNews has got hold of some screenshots that puts the date as September 29 for the release of the Vanguard. What does the Vanguard have to do with the G2? I'm glad you asked. If you rip open the leaked G2 ROM we saw recently (or grab it already done for you here), you will see references to the Vanguard, such as in the devices name for the static wallpapers (also pulled out for you here).
If things don't change (and they often do), look for the G2, codenamed the Vanguard, running stock Froyo, with an all new chip on the 29th of September. So who's excited for this besides me? [TmoNews]

According to files inside the leaked engineering test ROM for the G2 that recently showed itself, the phone is confirmed to be using a MSM7x30 Snapdragon processor, which has the high-octane Adreno 205 GPU on board. That's the same graphics chip that the Glacier was showing off a few weeks back. That really fast one. Yeah.
Speaking of the Glacier, we also got a tip that some upcoming hardware will be running the 7x30 board as well, namely the Glacier itself, the Speedy, the Blitz, the Mecha, and the Spade. But like a Froyo rumor, things like this often change. [@cyanogen via Android and Me] Thanks Adwin!

Next time when you visit the electronics department at a Target near you, don't be surprised when you see another guy or gal working the department that isn't dressed in red and khaki. Target and RadioShack are officially joining forces to bring Target Mobile to guests all over the country. Target Mobile is a "convenient and simplified cell phone shopping experience both in-store and online."
The bullseyed logoed company announced that by the end of this year (2010 for those of you not keeping track), 850 stores will have these mobile centers in their stores. By mid-2011 -- before the world ends in 2012 -- Target is ultimately planning to have these centers in majority of their stores nationwide. But if you're not quite the in-store shopper, the Minneapolis-based corporation, has also launched an online store: www.targetmobilestore.com; being maintained and Target-branded by Simplexity.
This isn't the first time we've seen retailers and network carriers link up to bring more cell phone options other then just pre-paid phones to customers; or as Target likes to call them -- Guests. Hey, who knows, you might even buy your next Android device when you're shopping around buying some Mossimo jeans or some Archer Farms cookies. What do you guys think? Will this be a success or a failed attempt? Sound off in the comments section and let us know what you think. [Target]

Waiting for the G2 to release on T-mobile and feeling impatient? If you're into the hackery fun, you can download and check out what looks to be the leaked engineering test ROM right now. The ROM is Android 2.2 (Froyo), has a HSDPA 14.4M + HSUPA 5.76M radio file, and is running the 2.6.32 Linux kernel. You can grab the leaked file here (site's in Han Chinese, use Google translate FTW). Looks like the G2 will be the hackers dream that it's little brother the G1 was, and everyone involved should love that! [HTC 911 via AndroidGuys]

The documentation for a new device from HTC has passed through the hands of the discerning FCC seeking approval. The device was filed under model code PC10100 and supports AWS 3G, which is the radio frequency known only to T-Mobile USA, accompanied by the ever-so-common 802.11n WiFi band. It’s most likely that this is the G2, (aka Vision) which is nearing its debut. If that happens to be the case, the HSPA+ support mentioned in the documentation is finalized, if it’s not the Vision, then this, "PC10100" just might be the mysterious, multi-core “Glacier.” [FCC via Engadget]
