HTC’s European representative, Mark Moons, let it slip through a tweet that there’s a chance Froyo will begin rollout to their many devices starting with HTC Desires in the Netherlands as soon as tomorrow. A Dutch tech news site, tweakers.net comments that, “the update will start Thursday, but due to a limit on bandwidth it will be a gradual rollout” again, that’s if they have all the kinks worked out and are ready to roll out this highly anticipated update. Nonetheless we can all be sure that all  Desire owners in the Netherlands will be checking for updates nonstop tomorrow. [via engadget and tweakers.net]

Fring received a minor update today, which should address many user reported issues, but it appears the feud with Skype is still going strong.  Some of the updates include:

• "Significant" audio improvements
• The echoing is fixed (fixed, fixed)
• Supports new Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S using the front camera
• Many more bugs fixes

Seeing support for new devices is great, and we always love to see bug fixes and better quality, but please Fring and Skype, bury the hatchet and work together, video calling is so much more viable when it can be used with a cross-platform desktop program.

You’ll want to make sure your phone is well-charged before you apply the update (50 percent or higher, please, and Cellular South suggests you install the HTC Sync program beforehand, just in case. CS also is pushing the free trial of My Backup in the Market to back up your contacts, again, just in case. (Can’t hurt, but if you’re sync’d to Google, you’re likely good to go.

You’ll also be getting MMS support along with the update, but it’s going to cost you $5.99 a month on your bill.

This isn’t going to do much for those of you with brand-new Samsung Captivates or Vibrants, but a Samsung France spokesman says the international version of the Galaxy S will be getting Android 2.2 in September. That may bode well for its U.S. counterparts getting it sometime thereafter, though remember we have to take our carriers into consideration when it comes to getting updates. First the good: The 1.13.604 software update for the Motorola Droid X finally started downloading last night, which means we can finally stop running this picture. Check out the official update thread in our forums.

Now, the not as good: There are a few reports (AC Forums, Engadget, Motorola, DroidForums, et al) of Droid X screens going wonky. Some report that a reset cleared things up, which doesn’t really point to a hardware problem, does it? Others are flat-out returning the phone. There’s always going to be some rate of failure. Welcome to the tech world. It’s hard to tell just yet how widespread any problem may be (though it does not appear to have anything to do with the update). Sound off if you’ve had an issue.

And we’d been hoping to avoid this, but apparently some of you are a little confused as to how to remove the Droid X’s battery. We’ve got you covered after the break.

T-Mobile has pulled the Android 1.6 OTA update for the Samsung Behold II over signal issues, and offers up no word on when to expect it to return.  In case you don’t remember or aren’t familiar with the whole Behold 2 update debacle, have a look here to read about the whole mess. Hint — there’s even crazy lawsuit talk (of course there is). 

Let’s be clear here — there’s no sense in continuing to roll out an OTA update that makes things worse.  We certainly don’t like waiting for our Android software updates, but I think we would like new signal issues even less.  Let’s all back off for just a bit and give T-Mobile some room to breathe and update us all accordingly.  [T-Mobile support forums via TmoNews]

Good news Eris owners — your OTA update has begun to roll out, and it’s been confirmed that it fixes the ‘Silent Call’ issue.  It may take a week or more for all customers to get the MR4 update, but for those who just can’t be bothered to wait the OTA link has been found.  You can get the file (direct from Google) right HERE, and install it via your Eris’ recovery menu.  As always, if you’re rooted or running a custom ROM, sit tight and wait for your ROM developer to get the update merged in.  [Verizon Community forum] Thanks xstrider!

Now that everybody’s had a couple of days with their Droid X, it’s time to start picking nits. And one such nit being picked in our Droid X forums is a perceived problem perpetuating a proper WiFi signal. Another involves syncing with Microsoft Exchange servers.

The good news is that it looks like an update is on the way. It appears most of you haven’t gotten that OTA update to firmware 1.13.604 that we got last week, so our pre-release units might have been testing that out for Moto. Android Central Forums user g1to3vo678 (might wanna change that handle, pal) points out that there’s some documentation for the 604 update (pdf), and Droid Life says it could be pushed out on July 19 (though we know of a whole lot of people still waiting on that rumored July 13 Froyo update for the original Droid, so take that unsourced rumor how you will). The doc states that you’ll be getting:

• Improved battery charging status indicator.
• Smoother transition for camera and camcorder functions.
• Redesign of weather widget icons.
• Faster Exchange ActiveSync® email loading.
• Streamlined organization of newly downloaded applications.
• Organized favorite contacts by call count.
• Updated Bluetooth® connection for enhanced video sharing experience.
• Coordinated date and time across phone displays.
• Cleaner looking status bar for GPS symbol.
• Improved sync capabilities for 3G Mobile Hotspot.
• Faster Visual Voice Mail loading.

Can’t tell you what’s changed, but another OTA update (the second in less than a month of pre-release use) has been pushed out to the Motorola Droid X. The 18MB update took just a few minutes to download and install, and we’re now working from version 1.13.604.en.US (up from 1.13.516), for whatever that’s worth. It’s still Android 2.1-update1, so we’ll just have to wait some more for Froyo.
